Meditation Instructor & Mindfulness Educator

I help people find calm in the chaos

For 14 years, I’ve been teaching Malaysians how to meditate — from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. No mysticism. No complex philosophy. Just breathing techniques and daily routines that actually work.

My Journey

How I Started Teaching Meditation

I wasn’t always a meditation instructor. In 2010, I was working in corporate finance in Kuala Lumpur, and honestly, I was burning out. Sixty-hour weeks, constant stress, barely sleeping. My doctor suggested I try something for anxiety — I showed up at a meditation class in Bukit Bintang more out of desperation than genuine interest.

That first session changed everything. Within weeks of practicing breathing techniques regularly, my sleep improved. My stress levels dropped noticeably. I wasn’t fixed overnight, but I could feel something shifting. That’s when I decided to get proper training.

I spent two years studying at the Institute of Buddhist Studies in Kuala Lumpur, then got my Vipassana certification from the Malaysian Buddhist Association in 2012. But here’s the thing — most meditation instruction felt disconnected from the lives of busy professionals in Malaysia. It was either too spiritual or too clinical. I wanted to teach meditation the way I’d experienced it: practical, grounded, and accessible.

By 2014, I’d left corporate work completely and started teaching small groups from a studio in Bangsar. Over the next decade, that grew into the meditation community at Mindful Path Malaysia Sdn Bhd. We’ve worked with over 8,000 people across Kuala Lumpur and beyond, helping them develop sustainable practices through breathing techniques and guided meditation for beginners.

Today, I’m still doing the same thing — just with more experience and a clearer understanding of what actually helps people stick with meditation long-term.

What I Teach

Core Areas of Meditation & Mindfulness

These are the foundations of every program I’ve developed at Mindful Path Malaysia.

Breathing Techniques

Structured practices like box breathing, alternate nostril breathing, and ujjayi breath. We don’t overcomplicate it — you’ll learn exactly how to use your breath to calm your nervous system within minutes.

Guided Meditation for Beginners

Step-by-step guided sessions that meet people where they are. No expectations. No judgment. Just clear instruction on focus, posture, and what to do when your mind wanders (spoiler: it always does).

Daily Mindfulness Routines

Building habits that stick. Whether it’s 5 minutes before work or 20 minutes at lunch, I help you create routines that fit your actual life, not some idealized version of it.

Meditation Communities

Regular group sessions in Kuala Lumpur and online. There’s real value in meditating with others. You’re not alone in finding this difficult, and you’re not alone in discovering how powerful it can be.

Mindfulness Practices

Bringing awareness into everyday moments — eating, walking, listening. Meditation isn’t just sitting quietly. It’s learning to pay attention to your actual life as it happens.

Meditation Basics Education

Demystifying the practice through workshops and educational resources. What’s the difference between concentration and open awareness? Why do some people find meditation harder than others? We answer the real questions.

My Approach

How I Work with Students

Accessible, Not Dogmatic

Meditation comes from ancient traditions, but you don’t need to adopt a whole philosophy to benefit from the practice. I teach the techniques and the science. What you believe is entirely up to you.

Evidence-Based

I combine traditional Buddhist meditation principles with modern neuroscience research. This isn’t about faith — it’s about understanding how your brain responds to meditation and breathing techniques, and building practices around that reality.

Practical Over Spiritual

You’re not here to transcend reality. You’re here to manage stress, sleep better, focus more clearly, and feel calmer. Those are legitimate goals. We work toward them directly.

Culturally Relevant

Meditation practices adapted for Malaysian life — whether you’re balancing family responsibilities, managing a demanding job in Kuala Lumpur, or figuring out how to meditate in a shared apartment. Real life, real solutions.

No Shortcuts

Meditation takes practice. Most people notice real changes in 6-8 weeks of consistent work, but there’s no hack or app that replaces actually sitting down and doing the work. I’m honest about that from day one.

Individual Attention

Everyone’s meditation practice is different. What works for your friend might not work for you. I pay attention to how you’re progressing and adjust guidance accordingly.

From Practitioners

What People Say

“I’d tried meditation apps before and couldn’t stick with it. But Amir’s classes feel different — he actually explains what’s happening and doesn’t make you feel bad when your mind wanders. I’ve been going for three months now and I’m sleeping way better.”

Priya, 32

“I was skeptical about breathing techniques honestly. Didn’t seem like it could actually change anything. But after learning box breathing in his workshop, I use it before presentations at work and it’s genuinely helpful. Less jittery, more focused.”

Arjun, 38

“My mum’s been stressed about everything for years. I convinced her to try Amir’s beginner class and she’s actually doing it regularly now. She’s calmer, and honestly we’re all noticing. He made it feel possible for someone who thought meditation wasn’t for her.”

Dina, parent

“The group sessions are the thing I wasn’t expecting to love. Meditating alone at home feels hard, but knowing other people are doing it too makes it easier. Plus Amir’s guided meditations are clear and don’t feel cheesy.”

Marcus, 29
